Ugliest Dog Award

Once again the “winner” of the Ugliest Dog Award is a Chinese Crested. He’s missing an eye and only has three legs because of cancer. He’s not that ugly, in my opinion. I’m not really sure what to make of a contest like that, or what to make of the dominance of Cresteds in the winners circle. It makes me a bit sad. His owners seem happy about it, though. I agree it’s all in fun, but on the other hand, I’ve had people call my Clovis ugly and it annoys me because I think he’s lovely. Anyone with a hairless dog has to acknowledge it’s unusual, that’s for sure, but I’ve seen lots of dogs that are waaaaay uglier than this year’s ugly dog winner — like last year’s, Elmer.

I just tell people that hairless crested are an ‘acquired taste’ 
Some people just don’t understand beauty when they see it!

That’s a good way to go about it. A bit sinister when you think that they used to eat these guys!;)
I met a woman the other day who said Cresteds are like chips… (crisps, to you!)

I personally see nothing wrong with these contests, its all just a bit of fun. Ugly doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. I know one of the entrants to this contest, and she is daffy about her ‘different’ looking crestie.
And I think his ‘oddness’ is a big part of his charm. He thinks he is the cutest thing on the planet. Thanks for the link to msnbc
